Watch: Snack on yummy ‘Onion Blossom’ from Vadodara streets

Some of the best snacks often come from streetside stalls, and one such snack is now raking in likes on Instagram.

Recently, food vlogger @the__bearded__foodie shared a video that showed a pair of vendors masterfully cutting a massive onion into the shape of a flower using a special machine. They then dip the onion in a batter and deep fry it. After removing the onion’s middle part, they season the onion with spices and serve it with mayonnaise.

As per the vlogger this dish, named ‘Onion Blossom’, can be bought at the “Bombay Special Food Yard, Outside Shivji Ki Savari, Karelibagh, Vadodara”.

So far this video has over five lakh likes. Commenting on it, an Instagram user wrote, “It’s just pyaz pakora, but nice way of frying”.

An Instagram user was quick to note that the ‘Onion Blossom’ snack shown in the video is a take on a popular American appetiser of a similar name. Making this point, an Instagram user wrote, “Fun fact. The Blooming onion was created in 1988 by Outback Steakhouse founder Tim Gannon.”

The Outback Steakhouse is a chain of casual dinners in the USA. It first introduced ‘Blooming Onion’ in 1988 at the first Outback Steakhouse outlet. Even now this dish is served with the dinner’s signature dipping sauce.
