James May’s latest update about The Grand Tour will probably disappoint fans as he admitted the group were “nearing the end”.
Giving an update on the Amazon Prime Video series and whether he’d given much thought to its future, James stated: “No, well, I’m being perfectly honest with you because there’s nothing to hide.
“We don’t often think more than about a year in advance because let’s face it, we’re old so you can’t.
“We’ve got another one about to come out, we’ve just filmed another one a few weeks ago and we’ve got another one planned to film later this year.
“What happens after that I don’t know, it’s a bit of a grey fog, it always is.”
Speaking to Jason Plato and Dave Vitty on the Fuelling Around podcast, he continued: “Jeremy is ploughing his farm, I’ve been cooking and doing some travel, Hammond is taking his own cars apart and then putting them back together.
“It’s not over but we’re probably nearer the end than the beginning.
“God, I hope so, we don’t want another 20 years of this.”
Following the controversy surrounding Jeremy’s comments last year about Meghan Markle, it’s been speculated the car series could be cancelled.
In response, James gave a similar statement indicating the show could be coming to an end.
Speaking to The Times, he stated: “Jeremy is an a***. So is Hammond, in a different sort of way, but the argumentative, mucking about, three’s-a-crowd, conforming-to-every-stereotype dynamic makes for great telly.
“Nobody’s been cancelled or burned at the stake.
“The truth is, we’re a bit too old for all this now. Jeremy is 63, Hammond is 53. We’ll have to stop one day and by my reckoning that terrible day is almost upon us.”
The series was an instant hit when it launched on Amazon Prime Video back in 2016.
After five series and with more episodes planned, it seems the popular show might not be around for much longer.
The Grand Tour is available to watch on Amazon Prime Video.
