Oprah Winfrey Quotes

How do I define success? Let me tell you, money’s pretty nice. But having a lot of money does not automatically make you a successful person. What you want is money and meaning. You want your work to be meaningful, because meaning is what brings the real richness to your life.

I knew there was a way out. I knew there was another kind of life because I had read about it. I knew there were other places, and there was another way of being.

I’ve talked to nearly 30,000, people on this show, and all 30,000, had one thing in common: They all wanted validation…I would tell you that every single person you will ever meet shares that common desire.

There is no such thing as failure. Failure is just life trying to move us in another direction.

I’m truly amazed that I, who started out in rural Mississippi in 1954, when the vision for a black girl was limited to being either a maid or a teacher in a segregated school, could end up here. It is no coincidence that a lonely little girl [and here Oprah tears up] who felt not a lot of love, even though my parents and grandparents did the best they could — it is no coincidence that I grew up to feel genuine kindness, affection, validation and trust from millions of you all over the world. “Forgiveness is letting go so that the past does not hold you prisoner.”

The essential question is not, “How busy are you?” but “What are you busy at?”

What other people label or might try to call failure, I have learned is just God’s way of pointing you in a new direction

What I know is, is that if you do work that you love, and the work fulfills you, the rest will come.

What I know for sure is that your life is a multipart series of all your experiences- and each experience is created by your thoughts, intentions, and actions to teach you what you need to know. This past Thanksgiving, my father was at the farm, and I had all 11 dogs in the house with a father who never allowed dogs in the house. And he got up to leave the table and came back and Solomon was in his chair. And he says, “This dog is in my chair.” And I said, “It’s the other way around, you’re sitting in his chair.”

Let not one single life have passed in vain. What really matters is who you love and how you love.

I am guided by the vision of what I believe this show can be. Originally our goal was to uplift, enlighten, encourage and entertain through the medium of television. Now, our mission statement for The Oprah Winfrey Show is to use television to transform people’s lives, to make viewers see themselves differently and to bring happiness and a sense of fulfilment into every home.

“When women put their heads together, powerful things can happen!”

Ignoring your passion is like dying a slow death…Passion whispers to you through your feelings, beckoning you toward your highest good. Pay attention to what makes you feel energized, connected, stimulated- what gives you your juice. Do what you love, give it back in the form of service, and you will do more than succeed. You will triumph.

I think that when you invite people to your home, you invite them to yourself.
