Canada to show no let-up vs Serbia in Fiba World Cup semifinal

MANILA, Philippines—Don’t expect Canada to change its ways especially against a hot-shooting Serbia side in the Fiba World Cup semifinal.

Canada is rolling and it has no plans of slowing down with the Fiba World Cup gold in reach.

“We’ll just try to play 10 minutes each quarter, try to win every quarter, play hard and stick to our game plan,” said guard Nickeil Alexander-Walker on Canada’s clash with Serbia on Friday at Mall of Asia Arena.

“We’ll stick together and do all the small things required to win,” the Minnesota Timberwolves guard added.

The Canadians, who are in the World Cup semifinal for the first time, have had that same mindset since the start of the tournament. Their highly-anticipated quarterfinal showdown with Luka Doncic and Slovenia was no exception either as they were locked in from start to finish.

NBA star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander showed the way for Canada in the 100-89 victory with 31 points and 10 rebounds while New York Knicks guard RJ Barrett scored 24 points.

Alexander-Walker also played a key role with 14 points, highlighted by three triples, three rebounds and two steals.

Serbia, flaunting a lethal offense led by Atlanta Hawks sharpshooter Bogdan Bogdanovic, presents another stiff challenge and Canada will be ready for it.

“Serbia earned their way here. They didn’t get here without being good. Serbia is a good team and we just got to prepare and be ready,” Alexander-Walker said.
